At last I can finally write you again. It has been far too long and so much has happened here on Ambientia. Since my last letter back in November of 2004 so much has happened that I do not know where to begin.
When I last wrote I was able to send my record of music that I created through the portal and that recording came back to the Synthitone while I was away from it for a few hours. When I came back there were numerical settings on some of the devices, perhaps hinting at an event that would take place two days later. Nothing happened. I had been living on Ambientia for a few months and was looking forward to a return home. December 7 was fast approaching. I was certain that a great event was near.
On the day of the great event, December 7, I woke to a wonderful sunrise and felt the fresh air on my face. There was also a strange hum in the air on top of the usual sound of the wildlife. Something was different but I could not determine what it was. I made my daily trip to the Synthitone and found an astounding site. There, in front of the Synthitone in all of its glory was the largest portal that I have ever seen. A calm, serene disk sat floating. It was waiting for something or someone...
As I drew closer the portal started to spin and vibrate. As I backed away the portal energy increased and reached a climactic moment where it burst forth all sorts of colours and electricity. I was nervous of the Synthitone being damaged more so than my own safety. Then, in a flash of brilliant light the portal ceased to exist. In its place there stood a man. I had never seen this person before, let alone anyone on Ambientia since the last expedition arrived over a year ago.
I approached this visitor with caution and curiosity. How did he get here? The same way I did, I suppose, all that time ago. He greeted me and told me that his name was Milzok. Milzok was from the same place as I and he told me that they had found a way to send a team to Ambientia. It had taken them several months to find a way to travel here, and that it only became clear when they came across my letters. They also were able to confirm that they were the ones to receive my disk that I sent through the first portal. It seemed that my disk made it back home and sparked a return expedition to Ambientia to try and find me.
They did come, on that very day foretold, December 7, but the portal would only stay open long enough to let the group through and not allow me to take the Synthitone back with me. It was as though fate would have its way in that the Synthitone could not be left behind without me, nor could I take it with me. Upon reflection however, it seems that the Synthitone could not leave Ambientia, nor could I leave it. As the last of the group went through the portal, I hesitated and looked back at the Synthitone. Then, in a flash the portal collapsed. Something went wrong. My chance to return home was no more. I tried for weeks to get the portal open again, to no avail. I knew that I would now have to make a home for myself here on Ambientia.
So, this is what I have done for the past year - made a home on Ambientia. Until today, when I was able to send a letter again, I abandoned all hope of ever returning. This all changed a few weeks ago, when the Synthitone started to act strangely. Since the expedition left, I have been able to find more pieces for the Synthitone and have been able to create more music. I now have quite a catalog of music, all seemingly having an effect on the environment of Ambientia. Never before have I witnessed such a symbiosis.
Just a few weeks ago, the Synthitone started a low hum. Not the kind of ferocious activity for portal activation, but a gentle, almost soothing, low frequency hum. Something has been activated in the Synthitone, but not by me. Could this be a sign of a new expedition launched to locate me? Could it be that the Synthitone is calling home? Could it be that Ambientia is expanding and that its music is probing to reach farther than ever before?
